Information for people with visual impairments

Visitors enjoying a touch tour

We offer audio described performances, and Touch Tours before audio described performances to enhance your experience at the Theatre. See bottom of page for specific dates and times.

Audio described performances
We offer audio described performances for all productions in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Audio description is a live commentary giving details of all the visual aspects of a production. The commentary is interspersed with the actors' dialogue. Before the play begins you can hear an introduction to the production which gives details of the set, costumes and characters. The commentary is delivered via radio headsets, which are available from the Box Office.

Visit the individual show pages for links to the introductions, or you can get the introductory notes on CD sent to your home to listen to before you come to the theatre. Please ask for this service when you book your tickets or email access@rsc.org.uk. These CDs are also available to listen to if you come to a performance. Please note that they will not be available for the first four weeks of the production.

Touch Tours
These allow you to get close to the set, costumes and props used in the play. During a tour backstage, the audio describer will guide you through important props and character costumes used in the production. Touch Tours are kindly supported by the RSC Friends. These tours are free - to book a place please call 01789 403436.

Guide dogs
Guide dogs can be taken into the auditorium, but please tell the Box Office when booking your seat that you are bringing your dog. Alternatively you can leave your dog with a member of staff in the foyer but again please let us know.

Improving visibility
We have four seats available at every performance in the front row of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre stalls for people with either a visual or a hearing impairment. Please ask the Box Office about the availability of these seats when booking your ticket.
