The Courtyard Theatre
Situated on Southern Lane, just along the river bank from the Royal Shakespeare and Swan theatres, the Courtyard Theatre was our temporary home during the Transformation Project.
It provided a full-scale working prototype for the new RST's thrust stage auditorium, seating approximately 1,045 audience members around a thrust stage.
It closed at the end of Janary 2011, but was used as additional performance space during the 2012 World Shakespeare Festival.
It was built on the site of The Other Place (TOP), the RSC's home for new and experimental work. Options to reinstate TOP are currently being developed and will be put out to consultation in spring 2011.
