Work continues on the concrete superstructure of the new thrust stage auditorium for the RST as the concrete structures contractor John Doyle works round floor by floor from the riverside to Waterside. During the current week all of the concrete work is complete to the mid level of the auditorium and work continues on the upper walls. Work on the concrete ground slab of the new actors accommodation on riverside has now been completed.
The excavation of the deep substage basement continues downwards into very wet and difficult conditions below river level: the wall between the new basement and the flytower basement is being progressively lowered as the excavation continues. Work continues on the concrete foundations for the new brick tower. New underground drainage on Waterside is being installed and tested. This week some minor elements of steelwork are being installed in the lift pit for a new lift adjacent to the Swan Theatre.
The brickwork trade contractor, Lesterose, is making very good progress with the repair and restoration work on the pilot section of the newly revealed river elevation of Scott's 1932 theatre.
