Peter Wilson
Project Director - 20 August 2008
The period when John Doyle is the only company undertaking construction work is now over. Last week DSM returned to install more temporary supports, this time for the stage left wing, where a large get-in doorway for the new RST auditorium is being created. This week a newly appointed scaffolding contractor, Sky, are at work on the riverside, creating a temporary access stairway and Lesterose, one of the UK's largest brickwork contractors, begin their first preparations for their part in the project, the construction of the new backstage accommodation, the brick outer skin of the new thrust stage auditorium, the tower and the repair and restoration of Scott's original riverside wall, which was revealed following demolition of later additions last year.
Meanwhile, Doyles' work continues throughout the site: their current activities include the creation of the upper levels of the new auditorium structure, the ground slab, the excavation of the deep thrust stage basement and of numerous pits and drains around the Swan and RST buildings.
