Preparations for the new basement

Project Director - 09 July 2008
Once more the week's activity on site is a continuation of existing tasks. John Doyle's work on the concrete elements of the new thrust stage auditorium is gradually working round from the river side of the building to the town side. The concrete walls and cores on the river side have now reached the level of the old theatre's circle which will be gallery level of the new more compact auditorium. There are areas of concrete floor slab in place.
Sockets have been being created in the existing walls of the riverside of the Swan Theatre to allow the new actor's accommodation wing structure to be supported from it. Similar work will soon commence on the town side of the building.
Preparations for the new basement continue with the sinking of wells to help reduce levels of water within the excavations.
Our demolition contractor DSM left site at the end of last week: they will return later in the project to dismantle the blue temporary steel support structures.
