John Doyle, the concrete works trade contractor, continues to work on foundations for the new 1000 seat thrust stage auditorium. Excavation work – which will include a new 7 metre deep sub-stage basement – has begun with the excavation for the west core of the new theatre. Large heaps of excavated material are now visible above the level of the hoardings.
Meanwhile final demolition work is being completed by DSM within the flytower using the large yellow mobile crane for access.
Later in the week a second tower crane will be erected at the south end of the site adjacent to the Swan Theatre, giving the project the full lifting capacity needed during the intense period of activity that is to come.
