Piling contractor moves on site

The unexpectedly thick concrete found beneath the orchestra pit was removed. A specialist contractor completed ground stabilisation in the area that will form the west concrete core of the new auditorium. Preparations for the piling contractor to begin work were completed. This week sees the beginning of a new phase with the arrival of the piling contractor, Cementation, and their large plant and equipment.
Elsewhere on site, a further four trees will be removed from the river bank south of the Swan Theatre to accommodate the new step-free riverside path. This completes our tree works for the time being. Bat boxes, as required by the county ecologist, will be installed in the gardens to provide additional roosts.
