During last week work was completed on the removal of the internal balcony stair and the temporary supports to the fly tower were completed. Work continued on the flood compensation works in The Dell, which are due to be completed at the end of the week. It will be many months before the grass in The Dell is properly re-established so that it can be used as before and there will be limitations on access and use in some areas, especially the new banks, until after the summer.
Preparations are under way for the demolition of the fly tower roof (not visible from the street as it is below the fly tower parapet) and for the demolition of the stage door and of the block between the Swan auditorium and the Swan Library building to the south of the stage wing. Preparations are also in hand for the piling contract which begins next week and for the stabilisation of the back wall of the riverside dressing rooms which, demolition has revealed, was weaker than anticipated.
