The demolition contractor has completed the removal of obstructions in the ground in preparation for the start of the piling contract. The existing piles have been surveyed to ensure that they don't clash with the new ones.
During this week the last areas of the old auditorium slab will be removed and the edges left neatly cut. Steel work from the stage basement will be removed and the demolition of the inner areas of the Balcony Stair will commence, whilst the final parts of the auditorium walls adjacent to the preserved Fountain Staircase will also be taken down.
At the Swan Theatre end of the site the demolition of the dressing rooms continues - 5,000 bricks have been reclaimed for re-use thus far. At The Dell, flood compensation works continue, overseen by the project archaeologist.
