Project Director - 19 December 2007
An area of the site was cleared of demolition materials to allow some test piling to be undertaken. Work continued on the creation of the Theatre Gardens site boundary and working area.
Further rubble clearance will take place from the auditorium alongside the removal of the old stage machinery. Some parts of the machinery are being retained for potential architectural uses at the request of the project architect Bennetts Associates. A new trade contractor, Cementation, who will provide the new foundations for the building, commenced work with 5 test piles adjacent to the retained Royal Shakespeare Theatre foyer.
Work continues on the temporary support to the Balcony stair area and on the demolition of the riverside dressing room block.
On Thursday, the site will be connected to its own power supply, allowing the old power supply to the theatres to be disconnected.
