Demolition work continued as planned with the removal of the remaining auditorium balcony. On the riverside, the old floor slab extending towards the river has been removed and upper section of the recently revealed outer wall has been carefully separated from the adjacent auditorium wall. The auditorium wall will shortly be dismantled and is the final major piece of demolition.
At the Swan Theatre end of the site part of the wall between Theatre Gardens and Waterside has been removed in preparation for the erection of the final site hoardings.
Over the coming week, demolition works will progress in several areas: the dressing room block stair, the upper section of the eastern auditorium wall will be taken down and remaining auditorium steelwork will be removed. The process of clearing and sorting rubble from the auditorium continues as does the installation of temporary support for the old balcony stair facade.
Elsewhere on site, a temporary path from Waterside to the riverside walk is being installed in Theatre Gardens; the protective pontoon in the River Avon is being removed now the riverside demolition works are nearing completion; and on the Chapel Lane site sample sections of the tower and auditorium drum brickwork are being erected for evaluation to help the Project Team to agree a choice of brick type, pattern of brick bonding and colour of mortar. The final choice will be submitted for approval by Stratford District Council.
