Sir Ben Kingsley visits the site
Sir Ben Kingsley, Oscar-winning actor and Honorary Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), has visited the site of the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre (RST) in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Following his site visit, he commented: "If I cannot be amongst the audience when this theatre opens for the very first time, I shall envy them for a very, very long time!"
The new RST is due to open in November 2010 with a series of preview events and activities, in advance of the first performances in early 2011.
Sir Ben last performed on the RST stage in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1985, when he played Othello. He has also starred in a variety of high-profile films, including Gandhi and Schindler’s List.
