Community Forum 2005 - 2006
The Community Forum was established in June 2005 and ran until December 2006, to comment on the design stage of the project. It included representatives from different groups in the local community and was chaired by Sir Brian Follett.
The idea behind the Forum was that it acted as a constructive, independent voice for the RSC, representing the people who live and work in Stratford as well as all those who visit the theatres. The Forum was designed to promote clear communications between the RSC and the town – helping to shape the consultation programme that informed the design process and construction of the new theatre.
Although the Forum included representatives from a range of stakeholders in the project, special attention was paid to the interests of those most affected by the project. Members of the Forum included local residents, businesses, schools, amateur dramatic groups and tourism bodies. The Forum also included representatives of the local authorities – as well as the RSC’s audiences, actors and staff. All of the members were nominated representatives including three People’s Representatives, who were selected through The Stratford-upon-Avon Herald. The Forum was chaired by Sir Brian Follett and met quarterly to discuss the transformation.
