At the heart of our work lies the principle of ensemble.

We believe that dynamic, distinctive theatre is made by working together with trust and mutual respect over sustained periods of time: that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

On stage this means that our acting ensemble works together for a much longer period than is usual.

Actors, writers and directors gain a deeper understanding of each other and of the plays they are producing. Having the time and space to explore together means that we can experiment and develop our craft.

The Gatsby Charitable Foundation and The Kovner Foundation, along with many individuals, have supported the RSC Ensemble since 2006, underpinning the successes of the Histories Ensemble and witnessing the artistic growth and critical acclaim of the current RSC Ensemble.

Looking ahead, our ambitions for ensemble theatre are to reach out internationally and across a range of theatre-making disciplines. Join us on this collaborative adventure into the heart of theatre making.
