A Manifesto for Shakespeare in Schools

WELCOME

Stand up for Shakespeare is our manifesto for Shakespeare in schools.

Our campaign to ensure that children and young people have a positive experience of Shakespeare in schools is receiving great support, and we'd like to thank all of you who have signed up already. We believe that Shakespeare should be made accessible to everyone and that you get the most out of Shakespeare when you:

    •  Do it on your feet
    •  See it live
    •  Start it earlier

It's clear from the support statements we've received from teachers that this practice is already happening in many schools across the country.
Please spread the word amongst your family and friends and urge them to ‘Stand up for Shakespeare' and be counted! The more signatures we get, the stronger our voice will be when lobbying for a national adoption of these approaches in the classroom.

Featured Statement:

Shakespeare's works are fantastically varied and versatile - and schools which teach Shakespeare well use a wide range of teaching approaches. I welcome the RSC's invitation to all schools to continue to explore how they can teach Shakespeare in engaging and exciting ways, and I hope it will lead to even more children having a great understanding and enjoyment of his plays.
