WELCOME
Stand up for Shakespeare is our manifesto for Shakespeare in schools.
Our campaign to ensure that children and young people have a positive experience of Shakespeare in schools is receiving great support, and we'd like to thank all of you who have signed up already. We believe that Shakespeare should be made accessible to everyone and that you get the most out of Shakespeare when you:
- • Do it on your feet
• See it live
• Start it earlier
It's clear from the support statements we've received from teachers that this practice is already happening in many schools across the country.
Please spread the word amongst your family and friends and urge them to ‘Stand up for Shakespeare' and be counted! The more signatures we get, the stronger our voice will be when lobbying for a national adoption of these approaches in the classroom.
Featured Statement:
Children come to school asking the question "Is it Shakespeare today?" They beam with delight when the answer is yes! Using approaches learned from the RSC we introduced Shakespeare to our Y5/6 children three years ago. They love it! It motivates them and quiet children find a voice - which develops their confidence and self-esteem. Here are some of the children's comments:
"Can we do more Shakespeare?"
"I really enjoy doing Shakespeare because it is not just writing, it's active and fun."
We now have Bitesize theatre to perform Shakespeare annually - the whole school is captivated from age 4 - 11.
