RSC transfers double bill of King Lear and The Seagull to the New London Theatre in Autumn 2007
30 May 2007
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) announced today that King Lear and The Seagull, currently performing in The Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, will transfer to the New London Theatre in London’s West End from 12th November 2007, for a limited run, after completing a world tour.
The two productions, directed by Trevor Nunn and with the original cast led by Ian McKellen and Frances Barber, will play in repertoire in the theatre which for many years housed Nunn’s groundbreaking production of Cats.
RSC Executive Director Vikki Heywood said: “We are delighted that the company is getting the chance to perform in the New London. The RSC has played in a variety of venues in the capital, including past performances at the Haymarket, Playhouse and Trafalgar Studios, amongst others. We are also continuing our five year relationship with Cameron Mackintosh, whose theatres, including the Gielgud, Coward and Novello, have recently housed the Company’s London seasons to great box office success”.
The New London Theatre is owned and operated by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group (RUG), who said today: “We are delighted to welcome the RSC to the New London. Our unique flexible stage and auditorium will allow for Trevor Nunn’s repertoire to transfer with ease from the Courtyard in Stratford.”
Accenture continues its role as the RSC’s Global High Performance Business Partner by extending its support to King Lear and The Seagull on its international tour and London run. This innovative partnership, entering its fifth year, has given Accenture an international platform to highlight its management consulting capabilities, as well as offering a ground-breaking initiative for the RSC to better understand and develop its international audiences.
