New press performances for King Lear and The Seagull
12 April 2007
The RSC will now present a double press performance on Thursday 31st May 2007 at The Courtyard Theatre, with a matinee of King Lear followed by an evening performance of The Seagull.
The RSC made the decision to postpone the press night of King Lear on the 3rd April when Frances Barber, who plays Goneril, was unable to perform due to a serious knee injury which has resulted in surgery. This means that she is currently unable to perform in King Lear but also unable to continue rehearsing for the leading role of Arkadina in The Seagull, the second play in the repertoire, which previews from 17 April.
The decision to delay the press performances for these productions is to allow the ensemble company time both to rehearse and perform The Seagull in repertoire with King Lear after Frances has made a complete recovery.
King Lear has continued performances, with Melanie Jessop in the role of Goneril, and The Seagull will commence preview performances on 17 April with Melanie playing the role of Arkadina.
