Berliner Ensemble, directed by Claus Peymann.
Founded by Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel in 1949, the Berliner Ensemble was a major influence on the creation of the RSC and continues to create political theatre for our times under the guidance of Artistic Director Claus Peymann.
Surrounded by ambitious barons, Richard II's monarchy lies in peril, as the murder of his uncle leads to a series of despotic decisions and, ultimately, to his usurpation and violent death.
Set in an eerie monochrome landscape, Peymann's powerful production, first staged in 2000, charts the degradation of Richard’s crown and personal downfall.
Richard II runs in the Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon from 16 - 18 November 2006, for four performances only.
Running time
The running time for Richard II is 3 hours including an interval of 20 mins.
