Speaking Like Magpies by Frank McGuinness.
Specially commissioned for the Swan Theatre, Frank McGuinness' new play deals with the background to the infamous Gunpowder Plot of 1605.
His many plays include The Factory Girls, Baglady, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme (for which he won the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright), Innocence, Carthaginians, The Bread Man, Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, The Bird Sanctuary, Mutabilitie and Dolly West's Kitchen. His play Mary and Lizzie was performed by the RSC in The Pit in 1989.
The production is directed by Rupert Goold. Currently Artistic Director at Northampton Theatres his previous productions include Summer Lightning, Insignificance, Paradise Lost, The Weir, Betrayal (Northampton Theatre Royal), Scaramouche Jones (Salisbury Playhouse) and The Wind in the Willows (Birmingham Rep).
The final performance of Speaking Like Magpies is on the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot.
Speaking Like Magpies runs at the Trafalgar Studios, London from the 14 February - 25 February 2006.
