This high-romantic version of A Midsummer Night's Dream displays a sense of well-conceived and executed style with a cast that includes James Cagney as Bottom and Mickey Rooney as Puck. Mendelssohn's music, intended to accompany live performances, allows the moveent, staging, lighting, editing and effects to build ballet sequences that stop time with their visionary beauty.
