The Merchant of Venice

The Merchant of Venice

'Shakespeare's dark comedy where the struggles between religion, race, sexuality and age and the effects on love, family and justice are explored...'

Theatre for a New Audience.

Founded in 1979 by Artistic Director Jeffrey Horowitz, New York based Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) continue their relationship with the RSC and present their UK premiere of The Merchant of Venice.

In addition to an ongoing collaboration with RSC Director of Voice, Cicely Berry, the Company last performed in Stratford in 2001 when they became the first US theatre company invited to bring a production of Shakespeare to the RSC, staging the critically acclaimed Cymbeline in The Other Place.

Academy Award Winner F. Murray Abraham (Salieri, Amadeus, 1984) plays Shylock in Shakespeare's dark comedy where the struggles between religion, race, sexuality and age and the effects on love, family and justice are explored in a fundamentally mercantile society.

'A glittering demonstration of how to break with Shakespearean tradition without breaking from Shakespeare'
Sunday Times on Cymbeline
