Caesar's assassination sees a nation descend into civil violence and instability. In one of the earliest of his Roman plays, Shakespeare explores the opposing dynamics of democracy and tyranny.

Julius Caesar is directed by Sean Holmes who most recently directed A New Way to Please You, part of the Gunpowder Season in the Swan Theatre.

James Hayes plays Julius Caesar, having most recently appeared in the Gunpowder Season. John Light plays Brutus, having last appeared with the Company in The Seagull in 2000. Finbar Lynch plays Cassius. He last appeared as Puck in Adrian Noble's 1994 production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Julius Caesar runs in repertoire at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon from 6 May - 10 October 2006.
