The Holly and the Ivy is a Christmas entertainment for all ages, devised and directed by Ali Troughton. For over twenty years it has been an extremely successful annual event at the RSC's Swan and Courtyard Theatres, Stratford-upon-Avon, attracting full houses every year and making well over £150,000 for designated charities. About fifteen actors - many being well known faces locally and on television - perform the event lasting about two and a half hours including an interval of twenty minutes. "A laugh, a song and a tear" best describes its format - a genuinely enjoyable evening including carols, poetry, readings and a pantomime! Just what is needed to set up the festive season.
This year, cast includes the Troughton family – David and Ali, Sam (Much in the BBC’s Robin Hood) Jim (captain of the championship winning Warwickshire County Cricket Club) and William (touring in The Lady Killers all over the country) - plus Phyllida Hancock, Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films) and Stratford locals Claire Nielson, Paul Greenwood, Kim Hartman (‘Allo, ‘Allo) and John Nolan.
