As part of the Stand Up for Shakespeare aim to get young people to “See it Live”, the RSC has designed a series of Young People's Shakespeare plays.

These distilled versions of Shakespeare plays have been specially created for schools and family audiences. The Taming of the Shrew will continue our work with, and for, young people and follows our recent productions of Hamlet and The Comedy of Errors.

In July 2011 the RSC took its Young People's Shakespeare (YPS) to the US for the first time, with four performances each of Hamlet and The Comedy of Errors at Park Avenue Armory.

This followed the success of our first YPS Week in September 2010, which saw 5,000 young people visiting Stratford-upon-Avon to see our those two productions. The week also featured members of our Ensemble running after show events and theatre workshops for children, directing street theatre and running a project around The Tempest for children with special needs.

“I doubt that you could see it without feeling Shakespeare is your contemporary, whether you are 9 or 99” Guardian
