New York 2011
In the summer of 2011 the RSC staged a six-week residency, in association with The Ohio State University, at Park Avenue Armory as part of Lincoln Center Festival 2011.
The engagement offered New York audiences a rare opportunity to witness the highly flexible virtuosity of the current RSC Ensemble of 44 actors, as they presented five very different plays taken from their three year journey to date: As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, The Winter's Tale, and Julius Caesar.
The productions were housed on a specially-constructed thrust stage that imaginatively recreated the RSC's home in Stratford-upon-Avon, installed in Park Avenue Armory's soaring Wade Thompson Drill Hall.
'The Armory exerts her own extraordinary gravitational pull on you, opens her long arms wide to your biggest ideas, your greatest emotions and your highest ambitions.' Michael Boyd, Artistic Director, RSC
