Audience development

Audience and actors in the auditorium of The Courtyard Theatre.

We need your help so that we can keep our ticket prices as affordable as possible, as well as creating specific initiatives to reach out to target groups, including:

  • Younger audiences, including non-traditional arts attenders between the age of 16 - 44
  • Family audiences, including under 16s outside of formal education settings
  • Local audiences in the RSC's major areas of geographical influence: Stratford, Coventry, Birmingham, Newcastle and London (and on tour)
  • Culturally diverse audiences
  • Global online audiences.

The RSC's commitment to audience development meant that in 2009/10:

  • Over 19,000 family-rate tickets were sold to under 18s
  • Over 20,000 school tickets were sold
  • 8% of Arabian Nights attendees had never been to a theatre performance before
  • 9,422 young people benefitted from our £5 tickets for 16-25 year olds
  • 100 students took part in workshops and career taster days
  • 2,846 people joined us on a backstage tour
