The 61st annual RSC Summer School will run from the 17 - 22 August 2008.
The Summer School's purpose is to enhance its participants' understanding of Shakespeare's texts and their performance. Originally designed for teachers of English, this very popular event now attracts people from a wide range of backgrounds who come because of their keen amateur or professional interest in Shakespeare and the theatre.
In the past the Summer School has been led by such notable Shakespeare scholars as Robert Smallwood, Stanley Wells, Russell Jackson and Peter Holland. This year's programme is co-directed by Professor Kate McLuskie, Director of the University of Birmingham's Shakespeare Institute, and the RSC's new Events & Exhibitions Department.
Lectures are held at the Shakespeare Institute, Church Street, Stratford upon Avon.
The fee of £150 includes:-
- An evening reception on Sunday 17th August
- Admission to all Lectures - each morning from Monday to Friday there will be a series of lectures or discussions closely related to the season’s plays.
- A buffet lunch on Friday 22nd August in the Institute Garden
- A visit to the Courtyard Theatre
