England and Scotland

Who's this? Dominic Cooke is the director.

Context: James I was James 6th of Scotland (from 1567) before he came to the English throne (in 1603). He ruled over both countries until 1625. His reign is the first time that a Scottish king has come to rule over England - the English are more used to it being the other way round! James' reign began the uniting of the kingdom.

Did you know? James was called 'the wisest fool in Christendom'. Establishing himself as a lawful Christian king, he commissioned the authorised version of the Bible (1611) which is used right up to the present day and known as the King James Bible.
