Context:
In Act 2 Scene 1 Banquo and Macbeth have a significant conversation. The scene is set for trouble and disturbance; the stars have withdrawn from the sky. Banquo talks of his dreams and the Weird Sisters but Macbeth pretends not to think of them. Banquo saw the witches, he heard their predictions, he knows who has a secret motive for doing away with Duncan. Maybe when he deliberately mentions his allegiance he is making clear whose side he is on. Banquo may not be an eye-witness to the crime but he knows too much and from now on his fate is sealed. |
