Polonius' costume

Who's this? Tom Piper designed the costumes.

Context: The design of a costume can be used to advance the action; to help the audience's understanding of a character. The design for Polonius included a long silver-grey textured robe. The designer's view was that Polonius was no bumbling fool but a dangerous spymaster.

Did you know? The RSC has one of the largest costume-producing departments in the world. It is subdivided into a number of specialist areas, including the gentlemen's and ladies' wardrobe, dye, armoury, hats and jewellery departments.
