with which people spoke. In fact the word 'elegance' applied
more to a person's style of speech than their appearance.
In a less visually dependent society than today, Hamlet talks
of going to 'hear' a play.
Think
about: The resonance of words - how the vowels work in Ophelia's soliloquy: 'O what a noble mind...' Act 3 Scene 1. Echoing the vowels in a speech may reveal deep primitive emotion. Language is emotional; we are moved by both the meaning and sound of words.
