Context: In this section of the scene Puck is very much in control; the lovers are very lost. Puck confuses them by moving invisibly among them putting on different voices so they are bewildered and disorientated. As part of his character development Jonathan Slinger chose to play Puck as alone and distanced from Oberon during the earlier part of the play, having lost his place in Oberon's affections. At this moment in the play reconciliation is at hand as Oberon goes to make peace with Titania and gives Puck a chance to put right the errors of the night for the lovers. |
