Context: The play began rehearsals in mid-January 2005 at the RSC's Clapham Rehearsal Rooms in London. The rehearsal period was specially extended to allow the Company to take part in a series of workshops with artist practitioners in such areas as mask work, Commedia dell'arte, puppetry, singing and verse speaking.
Did you know? It takes two teams to get a production to the stage. A backstage production team will work on the fabric of the play, building a world for the characters to inhabit. A creative team will work with the actors. Alongside the director there may be a movement director, a voice coach, a fight specialist, an assistant director, and, in the case of this production, a director of puppetry.
