When things go wrong

December 12, 2011

I'm having the best time doing the show. The audience make every performance special, I don't think they realise how much of an impact their faces have on me.

I do a fair bit of talking to them and there is nothing more sublime than talking to a person who is totally going along with you and listening. I love it when they get really involved and shout things out - that's proper theatre!

The worst thing is to see someone a bit distracted (I have seen someone picking their nose) but then I make sure to give them a good soak when I get out of the pond.

The new trailer is brilliant, although I have no idea when any of it was shot? Dusthouse must have gotten all that footage when we were in tech week. James looks very sweet and heroic. That all seems like such a long time ago now. I really enjoyed that tech period, sometimes it can be very stressful and boring but we have a spunky cast -so there was never a dull moment.

Every performance I'm finding new things and trying little things just to keep it all alive and kicking. I must admit I LOVE it when things go wrong because then you have to deal with it and inevitably you discover something that you would never have stumbled on, had it all gone to plan.

I think the show has definitely improved and is constantly growing and refining. Dan (the assistant director) is cool, we had a notes session, it was great to all re-group and tighten a few things up.

My grandmother came to see the show the other night, she said 'I didn't want it to end.' That is the best compliment I have ever had. I could hear her in the audience giggling away, it's funny how your ear can pick out a voice in a whole crowd of people.

I then gave her a backstage tour and she had a look in the pond and made friends with my pal 'JAWS'. My brother is coming this Saturday with his beautiful wife, they have seen the trailer and are very exited by it all. Little does he know that 'Martin' is based on him and my dad. Let's see if he spots it.

Wow! Brought a group of Year 7 kids from Nottingham last week. They were engaged throughout and so was I. The energy and enjoyment of the cast made the show, along with the incredible set. Beautiful performances throughout but for me ....... yours was the most impressive. Congratulations on a great great show.

saw it again today, astonoshingly brilliant again too. Did wait around by stage door for about 2 hours afterwards, saw you go out, but either I'd left by the time you'd come back or I'd missed you, so didn't get to personally say it, but the letter should be with you shortly.
