Rehearsing Robin Hood

Eating before the performance

October 14, 2011

Tuesday

We did a stagger through of Act 1 today putting the children's scenes in and placing them in the fights. Its beginning of week three and to be doing that is fantastic. It is an energetic show – I was sweating at the end of it. Attractive - I know! The play will end with Marion asleep in a little puddle.

It was good to do because it showed me my lines are there in theory, but still a bit rusty so I went through them when I got home. Also I have a few quick changes from Martin to Marion so it was interesting to see how quick it's going to be.

The story became really clear too - Marion's journey for me is obviously at the forefront of my mind. Being a powerless girl, missing her father, having a brain wave of meeting hood, hopes dashed, becomes independent, falls in love, her struggle with her sister who she loves but can't bear, struggle with prince John... There is a lot in there for me to think about and work with.

Physically too the difference between Martin and Marion. I have started wearing bits of costume for rehearsal to feel more girly or more boy/manly when I need.

My rope work is coming along steadily but my strength is not where it needs to be. It was interesting, I had a massive lunch and had eaten so much I struggled to climb at all when we were going through Act 1. Note to self: don't eat a burger, chips and a cake before a performance.

Wednesday

Today we worked scenes from act one again, we are going to be disciplined with the movement, when we do things in sync it looks great.

Also I thought about my limp... don't ask.

Thursday

We did another run through of act one. It felt far more natural. Then we started looking at Act 2, it did not go that well. It fell apart mainly because of lines and also I had the giggles. Ooops. Sorry guys.
