Pomegranate

February 14, 2012

A pomegranate and some textWell it's week three in the Song of Songs house. And a tough one too. The men in the company are returning to the rep with Measure for Measure and Written on the Heart, David Edgar's great new play about the creation of the King james version of the Bible. So I have three days where they are not about for at least half the day.

We had some pomegranate on Saturday. It was tart or rather 'wach' in Scots.

Beautifully shaped segments- almost like drops of blood glistening under the flash of my camera and the relevant bit of text under the bowl.

Keep meaning to ask - any questions folks?

We are tweeting from the rehearsal room on Wednesday.

(Song of Songs is performed in the Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on 28 February and 1 and 6 March 2012)

No questions just yet, but a couple of comments. I have been following your blog and have enjoyed all the little snippets, and I must say this sounds such a wonderful project. The Song of Songs is gorgeous to read, and I love to watch dance, and I have a great appreciation for Merce Cunningham and Mark Morris, and indeed Toni Morrison, so this seems like a slice of earth bound heaven in the making, and I am just sorry I won't be able to see it. I live in North Carolina, so a day trip is a bit out of the running.

That "thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks" line is perfect for dance isn't it? It evokes that flush to the senses experienced when encountering someone you love, but it also suggests the heat of a pulsing temple after movement. Just lovely!

Best to you all with the project.

So glad you managed a pomegranate this time! Every time I see them, I think of SONG!
