Context:
Throughout technical and dress rehearsals and previews, the
director and designer send notes back to the Production Wardrobe.
Adjustments may be needed if perhaps the colour or texture
of a robe comes across differently than imagined under the
stage lights or to accommodate very quick changes.
An actor may need two versions of the same costume: one to look fresh and presentable, one to look distressed and worn. This will mean a version of the costume being made identical and then 'broken down', a process which may involve using staining with mud or blood or possibly even cheese-graters in order to break the surface of the fabric. |
