Context: Hermia and Helena have difficult choices to make. They have gone through childhood together as the closest of friends, almost joined at the hip 'like to a double cherry', but the play now presents a situation of divided loyalties. Hermia must choose between her love for her father, her friend and her lover. Helena must choose whether to betray her friend's secret in order to gain at least a little gratitude from her love. |
