Writing on your Feet began in September 2010 with a full day INSET for teachers involved in the project.

After the INSET, all students involved in the project came to see the RSC Young People's Shakespeare Hamlet as part of YPS week in Stratford-upon-Avon. This picture is taken from the on stage event proceeding the performance.
Throughout September and October, RSC workshops were held in ten Black Country Primary and Secondary schools. Students and teachers actively explored Shakespeare's language and began to create their own plays in response.

Shakespeare's language was used as an inspiration for the student's scripts.
Students worked with professional playwright Tanika Gupta to edit their plays.
The scripts were then handed over to RSC directors. The directors worked with three Black Country colleges to rehearse the young people's plays.
In December 2010, the young writers came to Stratford-upon-Avon to see their plays performed on the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre stages as part of the re-opening of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
