First Encounter: King Lear

First Encounter: King Lear at Park Avenue Armory

In the summer of 2012, a company of nine actors and director Tim Crouch came together to create a production of King Lear specifically for young audiences. It toured to schools across England before touring to New York's Park Avenue Armory, where the production was filmed.

The film was made available on DVD to all public schools in New York City. It is also provided here, along with a filmed interview with Tim Crouch. We have also created a resource pack for schools to download and use in the classroom. The pack was developed in consultation with the Park Avenue Armory and the Arts Office at the Department of Education in New York City.

This project was made possible thanks to the Thompson Family Foundation and the Sidney E. Frank Foundation.

The stage play was developed through the support of Arts Council England and the Ohio State University.

Tim Crouch also wrote and directed I, Cinna: The Poet which is available to watch online.
