BBC Shakespeare Unlocked
In partnership with BBC Learning, we have created Shakespeare Unlocked, a series of digital resources for teachers and students in Secondary schools.
The resource is a series of films which provide unique insights into Shakespeare's world through productions and rehearsal workshops with the casts of RSC productions.
We 'unlock' four of Shakespeare's most widely studied plays by exploring three pivotal scenes that contain key moments for character and plot development. The plays are:
- Romeo and Juliet
- Macbeth
- A Midsummer's Night Dream
- Julius Caesar [coming soon]
The films show actors and directors exploring language, character development and dramatic devices. This underlines Shakespeare craft for students and shows how reinterpretation keeps the plays alive and relevant to today.
Alongside the films, we've created full teacher resource packs, with activities and questions to consider with your students before and after watching the films. The packs also contain a series of practical activities to give students a chance for a deeper exploration of the text.
