I, Cinna (The Poet)
I, Cinna (The Poet) is a new drama written and directed by Tim Crouch, inspired by Gregory Doran's Julius Caesar. Both productions were part of the World Shakespeare Festival.
This one-man show features Jude Owusu as Cinna, a minor character in Julius Caesar, who is killed by the mob for having the same name as one of the conspirators.
The play explores Cinna's experience of political unrest, the purpose of writing, and how (and if) to engage in activism.
Live performances took place in the Swan Theatre in summer 2012, and the film was broadcast over the web to schools across the UK on 2 July 2012.
I, Cinna (The Poet) was filmed and edited by students at Ravensbourne College, a higher education institution specialising in digital media and design. Project sponsor CISCO and research and education network JANET helped us broadcast the film to schools.
We also developed an education programme to help teachers incorporate the performance into workshops or lesson plans.
