Research and case studies
Here you will find short case studies on how active approaches to Shakespeare can improve learning outcomes for pupils of all ages and abilities. You'll also find independent evaluations of our working methods.
We are committed to improving the teaching and learning of Shakespeare and in 2008 launched a manifesto entitled Stand up for Shakespeare. It called for children and young people to:
Do Shakespeare on their Feet
See it Live
Start it Earlier
In order to justify this call to action, we need evidence that it works.
Our Learning and Performance Network of Schools (LPN) was set up in 2006 and recruits schools from across the country into a three year partnership programme. The LPN is now in its seventh year and 101 teachers have completed an action research assignment towards a Postgraduate Certificate in the Teaching of Shakespeare, awarded by the University of Warwick.
Summaries of a cross section of these teachers' findings can be found on our classroom case studies page.
A range of independent evaluations about our Learning and Performance Network and our manifesto Stand up for Shakespeare can be found on our research page.
We are always interested to hear from anyone carrying out research into the teaching and learning of Shakespeare, both in the UK and abroad. Please contact education@rsc.org.uk
