Using the RSC Toolkit with younger pupils
Adapted lessons for younger children from the RSC Toolkit for Primary Teachers
Hundreds of Foundation Stage and KS1 teachers who have worked with the RSC over a number of years tell us that introducing Shakespeare at this early age can be joyful and rewarding.
Thanks to a grant from the Department for Education, the RSC has been able to send a copy of its Shakespeare Toolkit for Primary Teachers to every state-maintained primary school in the country. This has included Infant Schools and, of course, all those Primary Schools who have children in the Foundation Stage and KS1. Although not all of the lessons and ideas in the Toolkit are suitable for these ages, many of them can be quite readily adapted so that everyone in the school can benefit.
We have made a number of suggestions as to how you can adapt the activities in the Toolkit to younger children, find out more here.
