History ensemble member Nick Asbury on understudy rehearsals...

Free periods
We're deep into understudy rehearsals for Richard II now.

Scene from Henry VAs I write it's lunchtime on Monday and we've a run through this afternoon and then a technical tomorrow then the actual run on Wednesday afternoon. Then I start getting my life back.

It's been so hard the last two weeks, first Pressing Henry V and then straight into re-mounting the Henry IVs whilst understudy rehearsing Richard II by day. I didn't write last week for fear that I might've been sued for slander to anyone and everyone. I was knackered, feeling ill and severely cheesed off with everyone who is not in Richard II for having three days off last week then another three this week whilst we've been working without a day off for the last eight weeks...

But I told myself to grow up and get a life and get on with it. Life's too short and I've had worse. It ain't anybody's fault and that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Which is all true but doesn't stop me being knackered. Although after a brilliantly wet Sunday (the badgers don't come out), I feel revived and refreshed even though I spent half the day learning lines. My time for a little rest will be after Wednesday where I will only be performing in the evenings whilst the others do understudy rehearsals for the Henry IVs, so it all pans out. This will be the first time I will just be performing in the evenings in this entire job. I won't know what to do with myself.
