History ensemble member Nick Asbury on having one of those shows...
One of those shows What a strange show we had last night.
Coupled with it being a Monday evening (a monday show after a tech week is always a strange show), and there being about 500 kids in, which always leads to an interesting evening, we had some technical problems too.
The biggest one, of course, was the disaster which happened to Anthony Bunsee on his trapeze. Half way through the first half it broke. With him on it. Thank God he was only seven feet above the stage. [Panic not - Anthony was suspended on a secondary safety harness and was flown in on an automated line.] My heart goes out to him. The 'French' have worked so hard - training for three hours a day for the last two months - to do their trapeze work for this show. And for a trapeze to break, well, that's just awful. Needless to say the problem has been addressed and all have been reassured that it will never happen again. Extra safety measures have been put in place alongside the already stringent procedures we have, so all our nerves, let alone the people that have to fly in this show, are settled.
It was just one of those shows. Tom Hodgkins fell down a trap. Jon Slinger, instead of kicking me in the shin in the Fluellen/Pistol fight caught me in the knee. I went down like a sack of spuds. I'm hobbling about today but it'll be fine. Believe you me, when you're cramped up in pain from someone kicking you very hard in the knee and then you're having a leek shoved down your gob it's no fun.
But it'll be fine tonight and we'll get back on track....... And let's fly.
