John Woolf

John Woolf worked on Henry VI Parts I, II and III, Richard III as part of the ensemble.

RSC:

Joined wind band in 1977, appointed Music Director for Stratford in 1987. Since then he has been MD on most of Shakespeare’s plays and other productions including Fair Maid of the West (1987 Royal opening of the Swan Theatre), The Wizard of Oz, The Beggar's Opera, Faust, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Secret Garden. Appointed Head of Music in 2003.

Trained:

Read music at St John's, Cambridge and Royal Academy of Music, studying oboe with Janet Craxton. Winner of 1970 York Bowen Prize.

As composer/arranger includes:

The Quest, Moliere, Twin Rivals, Measure for Measure, Seeds Under Stones, Troilus and Cressida, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Timon of Athens, Miss Julie (West End), The Tempest, Hamlet, Twelfth Night.

Other work includes:

Work in contemporary music field both as performer and composer, oboist with Bournemouth Symphony and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestras.

MD for Trevor Nunn's Twelfth Night.
