Sixth-form conferences explore the interpretative possibilities of selected Shakespeare plays and investigate how meaning is made in the theatre.
The Tempest
In collaboration with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, this one day intensive course is designed for English or Theatre Studies students studying Shakespeare.
The day will consider:
- the director's role
- the challenges that directors face staging Shakespeare's plays today
- choices made for this season's production of The Tempest
- previous RSC twentieth century productions
- the production history of The Tempest
- the original performance conditions and context
Members of the acting company and creative team will be on hand to explore these issues with the students and to offer insights into rehearsal room techniques the RSC uses to access Shakespeare's language and uncover meaning.
The conference runs on Wednesday 22 November 2006, 10am - 4pm, Theatre Royal, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
