RSC Costume Hire

'Hire Wardrobe'

After a production, some of the costumes may go to the RSC Collection and the rest of the costumes are hired out, or sometimes recycled for later productions.

Hire Wardrobe

Tucked away at Timothy's Bridge Road in Stratford-upon-Avon, RSC Costume Hire is an invaluable resource for theatre companies, film, television, school and university drama productions as well as amateur dramatic societies.

The RSC has a unique collection of costumes available to hire. Three floors are packed to the rafters with approximately 30,000 costumes that have graced the RSC stage over the past 40 or so years.

Although RSC Costume Hire specialises in Elizabethan and Jacobean costumes, there are also many costumes from periods ranging from Early English to the Twentieth Century.

The collection has also been used as inspiration for some rather well-known TV and film productions. Janty Yates, the costume designer for Gladiator, visited Hire Wardrobe before a meeting with the film's director, Ridley Scott. In fact, Hire Wardrobe has a lot of business from film and TV productions. RSC costumes have appeared in a stream of blockbuster films, including Shakespeare in Love, Elizabeth and Braveheart.

Sorry, but costumes may not be hired for fancy dress or parties.
